The Department of Economics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) places strong emphasis on holistic student development through active engagement beyond the classroom. Alongside rigorous academic training, the department fosters a vibrant and inclusive learning environment by encouraging students to participate in a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

To recognize academic excellence, leadership, creativity, and social contributions, the department regularly organizes “Ecognition”, a student program that organize the competition on the knowledge on economics in a real-world shape which resembles to small projects or ideas. It motivates students to pursue excellence. Such initiatives play an important role in boosting confidence, morale, and a sense of belonging among students and makes them to step in the real world.

Physical well-being, teamwork, and sportsmanship are actively promoted through events such as Sports Week, Annual Sports, and participation in Inter-Department Cricket and Football Tournaments. These activities not only enhance physical fitness but also cultivate leadership skills, discipline, cooperation, and healthy competition among students. The department takes pride in its strong participation and performance in university-wide sporting events.

In addition, the department supports student-led initiatives, cultural programs, debates, seminars, and informal mentoring activities that strengthen peer interaction and academic collaboration. Faculty members remain closely engaged with students through academic advising, career guidance, and personal support, ensuring a nurturing and student-friendly environment.
