Greetings and a warm welcome to the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE).
It is my great pleasure to introduce you to one of the pioneering engineering departments in Bangladesh. Since its establishment in 1994, Industrial and Production Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been committed to excellence in engineering education, research, and technological innovation. It is a matter of pride that this department was the first in the country to launch the B.Sc. Engg. (IPE) program, subsequently inspiring similar initiatives across other institutions. Today, we also offer well-established postgraduate programs, including MS (General), M.Sc. Engg., and PhD.
Three decades ago, this department was established with a vision to cultivate a new generation of Engineers equipped with the knowledge and skills to optimize industrial processes, enhance productivity, and drive technological advancement. This vision has been consistently nurtured by the dedicated faculty, a vibrant student body, and a commitment to rigorous research and practical applications. Currently, our department is enriched with highly qualified faculty members with global exposure, modern laboratory facilities, and a curriculum that reflects both contemporary industrial needs and emerging global trends. The IPE program focuses on developing the capacity to design, improve, implement, and evaluate integrated systems of people, machines, materials, energy, and processes. Graduates are equipped with the analytical, technical, and managerial skills required to contribute effectively to both the manufacturing and service sectors.
Industrial and Production Engineering plays a crucial role in national growth. Without strong industrial development, sustainable socio-economic progress remains challenging. Our graduates continually demonstrate their excellence as policymakers, system engineers, operations managers, quality experts, production engineers, industrial engineers, and engineering managers—both at home and abroad. At IPE, SUST, we offer a congenial, supportive, and intellectually stimulating environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, ethical responsibility, and lifelong learning. Our aim is to nurture world-class engineers who can contribute meaningfully to national development and compete confidently on the global stage. I warmly invite current and prospective students, alumni, industry partners, and all well-wishers to engage with our department.
