Graduate Student Awards

The Department of Chemistry at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) proudly recognizes the achievements of its students who have excelled in academics, research, leadership, innovation, and social engagement.


Below are some of the recent honors and awards received by our students:

 

AKM Zahid Bin Azad

  • Program: BSc
  • Session: 2024-25
  • Award: Learing to play the Violin With Every Child's a Musician
  • Organization: Every Child's a Musician, Totor: Yung Ho
  • Date: 2014-15 October
  • Description: It was given for being very well in playing the violin. My picture was posted on the wall of my school in England( Plaistow Primary School) and even on their website.

 

MAHIN

  • Award: President's Scout Award
  • Organization: Bangladesh Scouts
  • Date: November, 2018
  • Description: The President’s Scout Award is the highest honor in the Scout category of the Bangladesh Scouts, conferred by the Honourable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in recognition of outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to community and nation-building. Receiving this prestigious award in 2018, I was recognized for my exceptional contribution to humanitarian service, commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and demonstration of diverse practical and leadership skills through active participation in scouting activities.

 

Habibur Rahman

    • Award: MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2023
    • Organization: United Nations Academic Impact and MCN (Millennium Campus Network)
    • Date: February, 2024
    • Description: United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. 44,000+ student leaders from 3,300+ campuses across 170+ nations applied to join the Class of 2023. 260+ campuses worldwide (just 9%) in 38 countries were selected to host 4,000+ Millennium Fellows for the Class of 2023. Advancing SDG 7 & UNAI 9, our project was based on waste management program, where our target was to turn solid waste into energies. Targeting green infrastructure & through effective chemical & biological treatment, waste can be regenerated into energy. After 6 months of evaluation and completing tasks provided by the MCN directly, a complete report was submitted and after thorough evaluation, MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2023 was awarded.


    • Award: Pre-seed winner (Top Ranked) of Innovation Cohort 06, UNIVERSITY INNOVATION HUB PROGRAM
    • Organization: UNIVERSITY INNOVATION HUB PROGRAM, powered by ICT Division, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and The World Bank
    • Date: August, 2025
    • Description: University Innovation Hub Program is a platform for undergraduate students of Bangladesh to make successful entrepreneurs. BHTPA’s UIHP fosters a vibrant community of innovation by integrating educational rigor with the entrepreneurial spirit. Throughout the program, participants engage with complex problems and develop innovative, scalable solutions under the mentorship of industry giants and academic leaders. We, team HydroHope aimed to mitigate saline water issue targeting SDGs 1,3,6 & 13 and made a prototype as a market ready product. After pitching to the jury board, and thorough evaluation our prototype stands out. Hence, we secure the top position and got the highest pre-seed funding of innovation cohort 06 (IC6).

    • Organization: American Chemical Society (ACS)
    • Date: October, 2023
    • Description: ACS International Student Chapter, SUST has been founded in 2023, 4th university in Bangladesh to start International Student Chapter. The chapter was formed to collaborate and organize science related events, also to make a community of students to engage with International Platform. At present, 8 universities has active International student chapters, and we are on a mission to make a national community with chemical science background students.


    • Award: ACS Outstanding Student Communities Award, 2023-2024
    • Organization: American Chemical Society (ACS)
    • Date: October, 2024
    • Description: ACS Student Communities Awards are based on the report that a chapter submits each year, where a chapter must include the list of activities and the outcomes of those activities. After formation, within six months of activities, we visited BCSIR (Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), Chittagong & Hydrogen Energy Lab. Later on, we visited an underprivileged school in Jaintapur, Sylhet as a part of our outreach program, where we demonstrated chemical shows, arranged Olympiad at 2 different categories. One of our major event was launching career series with alumni, where students from the department can engage with our alumni easily.

    • Organization: Education, Science & Innovation Alliance (ESIA)
    • Date: December, 2023
    • Description: Education, Science & Innovation Alliance (ESIA) is a North American based non-profit organization, which provide fellowships in 4 different categories each year. I got the Community Leadership Award for the academic year 2023 due to my active participations in co-curricular activities along with my academic studies.

 

Md. Hassan Shahriar

  • Description: I have recieved this fellowship for my academic execellence. This fellowship was given by ESIA, an organization run by the North-American alumni association of department of chemistry, SUST.

 

Abu Sayam Sadik

  • Award: Fall 25 CIBA Young Scientist Travel Award
  • Organization: American Chemical Society
  • Date: 15 July 2025
  • Description: I was awarded the ACS CIBA Young Scientist Travel Award (Fall 2025) in recognition of my demonstrated research excellence, strong academic performance, and emerging contributions to the field of sustainable and advanced biomaterials. The selection also reflected my active leadership in fostering research culture and scientific collaboration among young chemists. This prestigious and competitive award supports promising early-career scientists presenting impactful research at international conferences, and I was chosen based on the significance, innovation, and potential global relevance of my work in biomaterials for regenerative applications.

 

Mohiuddin Mahin

Fariha Sanjida

After 6 months of evaluation and completing tasks provided by the MCN directly, a complete report was submitted and after evaluation, MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP Of CLASS-2023 was awarded.

    • Description: ACS Student Communities award is provided to any International Chapter to successfully perform activities to spread the goals of ACS. Since the starting of ACS INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CHAPTER, SUST, in 2023, it has been running outstanding events that are recognized by ACS. And based on the events of the year 2024-2025, we recieved this award.
