Established in 1995 as the first industrial engineering discipline (undergraduate level) in Bangladesh, the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at SUST has made a name for itself in the engineering industry through excellence and innovation in research and education. Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) is a branch of engineering that concerns the development, improvement, implementation, and evaluation of integrated systems of people, knowledge, equipment, energy, material, and process. IPE draws upon the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design along with mathematical, physical, and social sciences to specify, predict and evaluate the results obtained from such systems. Industrial and Production Engineer works to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, energy, and other resources in both the manufacturing and service sectors. At present, the degrees offered by the department are BSc in Industrial and Production Engineering, MSc in Industrial and Production Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy. The program is accredited by the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB).
