Biography

Abul Kashem is a faculty of the Department of Social Work of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh from February 2004 to the present. Prior to his joining he obtained BSS and MSS from Department of Social Work, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet in 2000 and 2002 consecutively. His research interests are Disability, Human Rights, Health-seeking Behaviour, Adolescent Health, Social Exclusion, Violence against Women, Domestic Violence, Social Safety net, etc. Beside academic research supervision he has been conducting various research projects funded by national and international organizations. He has so far published numerous articles in many national and international peer reviewed journals.

  • 1. A research project entitled “The Problem of Access and Rights of Fishermen in Water Bodies of Haor Areas: A Case Study at Ador Haor in Brahmanaria District”. The project is funded by OXFAM-GB and is guided by the Institute of Development Studies (IDEA), Sylhet, Bangladesh. 2. A research project entitled “Government Allowances Program of Insolvent Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Bangladesh: Exploring the Successes, Limitations and Barriers.” The project is funded by University Research Centre, SUST, Sylhet. 2. A research project entitled “Identify the Causes and Consequences of Drop Out among the Girls Students of Primary and Secondary Schools: A Study in Sylhet Division”. The project was funded by Campaign for Mass Literacy, Dhaka, and is guided by the Institute of Development Studies (IDEA), Sylhet, Bangladesh. 3. A research project entitled “A Study on the Situation of Snake Charmer Community in Sunamgonj District’”. The project is funded by University Grants Commission, Bangladesh. 4. A research project entitled “Impact Study of Alternative Livelihood Program (ALP) in Bibiyana (1st phase).” The study is funded by Chevron, Bangladesh with the collaboration of Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA), Sylhet, Bangladesh. 5. A research project entitled, “Understanding the Challenges in Education for Children with Disability’”. The project is funded by University Research Centre, SUST, Sylhet. 6. A research project entitled “Impact Study of Alternative Livelihood Program (ALP) in Bibiyana (2nd phase).” The study is funded by Chevron, Bangladesh with the collaboration of Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA), Sylhet, Bangladesh. 7.
