Biography
Mahmud Hasan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Administration, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh. He has been serving at SUST since 2012. Mahmud obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Public Administration from the University of Chittagong in Bangladesh.
Before joining SUST, Mahmud worked with two leading research institutes in Bangladesh: the BRAC Development Institute (BDI) at BRAC University and the Power and Participation Research Center (PPRC). While at these institutes, he was involved in various research projects on development, governance, and poverty reduction. In addition to his academic and research work, Hasan has also worked in the film industry as a first assistant director for three years. He worked with the CANNE award winner film directors Tareque Masud and Catherine Masud on several film projects.
His research interests mainly focus on imperialism, climate change, urban poverty, and local government. Mahmud is currently involved in several projects funded by the University Grant Commission, SUST Research Center, and Bangladesh Police. These projects include investigating the impact of climate change on urban poverty, examining the role of local government in poverty reduction, and analyzing the relationship between imperialism and development in the Global South.
