Biography

After successfully completing and securing 1st position according to merit in her BA(Hons) and MA in English exams from Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka, Dr Afruza Khanom officially began her career in teaching at the tertiary level (of education) by joining BCS (General Education) Cadre in 1998 through the 17th BCS Exam. Alongside her job, she completed her MPhil from the University of Dhaka concentrating on the development of the Stream of Consciousness technique in 20th century British literature under the supervision of Dr Firdous Azim, a great scholar whose writings focus on social, cultural and women’s issues. Dr Khanom then concentrated her research on understanding identity constructions in postmodern narratives ranging from short stories to films which resulted in a PhD, also from the University of Dhaka, under the supervision of renowned educationist, scholar and translator Prof. Fakrul Alam.
In 2018, after 20 years of Govt. service in the BCS education sector, she joined as Associate Professor in the Department of English at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh.
