Biography
Sikandar Ali teaches English at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet. He took a Bachelor and a Master’s in English (literature) from Jahangirnagar University and an MA in TESL from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Sikandar started his teaching career as Lecturer in English in Dhaka Imperial College ((2000). Then qualifying for Bangladesh Civil Service (Education) he taught in government colleges for 4 years. Afterwards he joined SUST in 2007 as Assistant Professor and became Associate Professor in 2017. Sikandar regularly contributes to different English language dailies. His book Shakespeare and the Orient is an authoritative book on Shakespeare’s representation of the Orient. He has translated Bangabandhu’s speeches as part of a pool of translators. He has also translated a selection of Bengali poems into English. Currently, he is editing the Bengali translation of a volume of short stories by Anglo–Indian women writers, to be published shortly, under the title Ouponibeshik Lekhikara.
