Biography

I have completed my doctoral qualification in Economics in July 2015 from the School of Economics and Finance, Curtin University, Australia. The title of my PhD research is “Essays on the Economics of Human trafficking, Migration and Remittances”. My doctoral thesis is recommended for the Chancellor’s Commendation.
I have completed my Master of Arts (MA) degree in Economics from the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. During my MA, I had the opportunity to grab extensive training through attending courses on Advanced Econometrics, Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomic Theory, Financial Economics, Public Finance, and International Trade.

For my achievements in academic and extracurricular activities, I was granted the honour of becoming a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST), Bangladesh in September 1999. In September 2002, I was promoted as an Assistant Professor in the same Department. From December 2009-September 2015, I was an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. Since September 2015, I am working as a Professor in the department.
From October 16, 2014 to March 11, 2016 I worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Economics and Property, Curtin University on an AusAID Development Research Awards Scheme titled ‘School, Lifetime Prospects and the Role of the Transition from School to Work in Indonesia’. This position involves conducting research related to development economics.
I have twenty-one publications in high quality domestic and international journals. During the PhD period at the School of Economics and Finance, Curtin University, eleven research papers had been accepted for publication or published in quality journals on applied and behavioural economics issues such as human trafficking, migration, remittances and education. Not only is my academic output very high regarding the quantity of outputs, it is also so with regard to the quality. Three papers were published in the Journal of Development Studies, one paper in the ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and a paper that appeared in Global Environmental Change; one-year impact factor of 6.00. All of them were on human trafficking, migration and remittances. Five more papers are currently under review and/or at the revise and resubmit stage in high quality, international journals.
One of my PhD articles were presented in the 2014 CBS-HDR Colloquium held in Curtin University and received the ‘Best Paper Award’. I was also awarded ‘Certificate for quality publications’ in ABDC ranked A*, A, and B journals from the CBS-HDR, Curtin University.
