Biography
Dr. Mohammad Zahangir Alam was born at Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria in 1976. He finished Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC) in 1992 from Dhakadakshin Multi lateral High School, Golapgonj, Sylhet and obtained first division with outstanding marks. Then he attended Comilla Victoria Government College for Higher Secondary Certificate in 1994. After that, he completed Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Animal Husbandry and Master of Science (MS) in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 2001 and 2003 respectively. He started his professional career as a Scientific Officer at District Artificial Insemination center, Sylhet under Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and served from July 2003 to February 2004. Later he joined as a lecturer of Animal genetics and breeding under Barisal Govt. Veterinary college affiliated with Patuakhali Science and technology University and served from March 2004 to November 2004. Dr. M Z Alam joined as a lecturer at the Department of Genetics of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in December 2004. He was awarded research grant at the University of Bonn, Germany in 2007 and stayed in Germany from March 2007 to June 2007. He promoted as an Assistant Professor in July 2007 and act as a Head of the Department of Genetics until the former Genetics and Biotechnology department merged together to form Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in December 2009. Dr. M Z Alam awarded Erasmus Mundus Scholarship from European Union in order to pursue a Master degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and successfully completed the course with outstanding grade from University of Aveiro, Portugal and Aalborg University, Denmark. Dr. Alam was promoted as an Associate Professor in February 2014. He received a fellowship from the Yeungnam University, South Korea to complete his Phd study in Biotechnology. Dr. Alam promoted as a Professor of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology since May 2019. He successfully earned his Phd degree in February 2020 specialized in Bioinformatics. Dr. Alam visited several countries to attend in scientific conferences, workshops, tour in Denmark, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Japan, UAE, Saudi Arabia etc. He is currently working on the improvement of production traits of livestock species.
