Biography
Dr Arfin Khan is a professor of Forestry and Environmental Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Previously, he did his Bachelor and Masters Degree in Forestry from the same department. Dr Arfin Khan finished his doctoral degree “Doctor of Natural Sciences” and also completed his postdoctoral research in Climate Change & Ecosystem Functioning from the Department of Disturbance Ecology, University of Bayreuth, Germany. Dr Arfin Khan’s research interest and specializations are (a) assessing the impacts of extreme climatic events on plants and ecosystem functioning, (b) evaluating livelihood vulnerability and exploring adaptation strategies in the face of climate change, and (c) understanding the role of natural and anthropogenic disturbance on plant diversity and forest ecosystem services. He is currently participating in several worldwide coordinated research projects such as sPlot, DarkDivNet, Soil DarkDivNet, and Drought-Net. He previously worked in climate change manipulation experiments in Europe and supervised several research projects regarding multiple drivers of forest ecosystem functioning in Bangladesh. Jointly with his colleagues and with students, Dr Arfin Khan has published 40+ manuscripts in international peer-reviewed journals, i.e. Nature Ecology and Evolution, Global Change Biology, Ecosystems, Plant and Soil, Journal of Vegetation Science, Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change, Acta Oecologica etc.
