Biography
Md. Sadakin Islam was born in Naogaon in 1998. He passed SSC examination with GPA 5.00 from Rajshahi Government Model School and College in 2014. He continued his higher secondary education at Rajshahi Government City College, completing the HSC with also GPA 5.00 in 2016. He was admitted to the Department of Statistics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet in 2017, where he obtained both his B.Sc. (Honors) and M.S. (Thesis) degree with distinction—securing First position in both programs.
Prior to joining at Department of Statistics, SUST as a Lecturer on 15 June 2025, Mr. Islam accumulated years of experience in research, teaching, and statistical consultancy. He served as a Scientific Officer in the Agricultural Statistics Division at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) from 30 June 2024 to 14 June 2025, where he co-led several projects. He also worked as a Research Assistant at icddr,b, and as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Public Health, Leading University, Sylhet. In addition, he contributed to several multidisciplinary research initiatives at SUST and served as a Junior Statistician at Sigma Consultancy, where he specialized in statistical modeling and data analysis across sectors such as public health, education, and agriculture.
Mr. Islam is proficient in R, SPSS, SAS, STATA, and Python, and has provided training on data analysis techniques. He also has significant leadership experience, serving as the Founding General Secretary of the SUST Data Science Club and as President of the Varendra Association, SUST.
His research interests include Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Biostatistics, Time Series Analysis, and Statistical Modeling.
