Biography

Mr Fakhrul Islam joined the faculty of the Department of Public Administration, School of Social Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, in March 2012. Prior to his appointment, he completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees at the same institution, establishing an early and dedicated connection to SUST.

Demonstrating an initial commitment to scholarly inquiry, Mr Islam established a robust foundation in social research early in his academic career, evidenced by several peer-reviewed journal publications. These early contributions propelled his scholarly trajectory and enriched his pedagogical approach within the classroom. His research interests are primarily situated within critical areas of public management, discourses of local governance, the complex issue of human trafficking, the socio-economic reintegration of survivors, and the ethical considerations inherent in the Bangladesh Civil Service. A fervent proponent of rigorous empirical investigation, Mr. Islam has also cultivated considerable expertise in research methodology, a subject he has imparted through various undergraduate and graduate-level courses.

In 2018, Mr. Islam's academic promise was recognized through the prestigious Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship. He is currently undertaking his doctoral studies in criminology at the University of Queensland, Australia. His doctoral research critically examines the lived experiences of crime victims, the multifaceted socio-economic reintegration processes of trafficking survivors, and their interactions within the criminal justice system.
