Biography

Tulshi Kumar Das obtained PhD and MPhil degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India in 2002 and 1997 respectively under the scholarship program of the Government of India. He stood First Class First and also First in the entire Faculty of Social Sciences in his Master’s exam in Social Work at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, and also won Gold Medal for his outstanding performance in the exam. He joined as a Lecturer of Social Work at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh in 1993. Since then, he has been teaching in the Department of Social Work at the same university till date. At present, he has been serving as a Professor of Social Work. He served as Head of the Department of Social Work for 10 long years and was Dean of the School of Social Sciences for 02 years at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology. He has so far participated in and presented papers at 32 international conferences with scholarship in different countries like Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, India, and Nepal. He has so far published around 59 articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has published with Routledge, Sage, Wiley and Blackwell, Springer, Oxford University Press, Primrose Hall, Australia, etc. His research interests include domestic violence, natural disaster, child labor, microcredit, HIV/AIDS, and indigenous social work. He has successfully completed many research projects on different social and psychological issues, sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, India, Commonwealth Local Government Forum and Comic Relief Fund, UK., FAO, Ministry of Social Welfare, European Commission, USAID, GIZ/ EPOS (Germany), Japan College of Social Work, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Bangladesh University Grants Commission and Research Centre of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He is currently engaged with research projects titled ‘Causes and Consequences of Dowry Practice in Bangladesh’, ‘Life and Livelihood of Street Vendors in Sylhet’, ‘Coping and Resilience of People Hit through Frequent Flash Flood in Sunamgonj district of Sylhet’, and ‘Endline Evaluation of Maternal, Newborn Health and Family Planning Services in Rural Bangladesh’. He is an active member of Bangladesh's civil society, directly engaged with 45 public and private organizations working for the well-being of marginalized populations. He is a member of the Editorial Board of three International Journals and three National Journals.
