Assistant Professor
Fakhrul Islam embarked on his academic journey as a faculty member in the Department of Public Administration within the School of Social Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in March 2012. Before his appointment, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the same institution.
Early in his academic career, Fakhrul established a solid foundation in social research by publishing several journal articles, which helped advance his scholarly journey and enriched his pedagogical approach. His research endeavours have predominantly centred on critical themes such as public management, discourses surrounding local governance, human trafficking, survivors' reintegration, and the ethical dimensions of the Bangladesh Civil Service. A passionate advocate for rigorous inquiry, he has also demonstrated significant proficiency in research methodology, delivering various undergraduate and graduate-level courses on the subject.
In recognition of his academic potential, Fakhrul was awarded the highly competitive Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship in 2018. Currently, pursuing his PhD in Criminology at the University of Queensland, Australia, his doctoral research delves into the lived experiences of crime victims, the socio-economic reintegration of trafficking survivors, and their engagement with the criminal justice system.
