Biography
Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam was born on 29th October of 1979, in a decent muslim family of village Jagadish, Itakumari under Rangpur district. He is the only son of Hafez Md Nurul Islam and Most. Latifa Begum and having two sisters. His elementary education was started on 1984 in Annadanagar Primary School, Pirgachha, Rangpur and then he completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination on 1994 from Annadanagar M. L. High School, Pirgachha, Rangpur. After his SSC education, he admitted to Carmichael College, the renowned college of North-Bengal and successfully passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Examination on 1996. Afterword, he admitted to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi as an undergraduate student and graduated from the same department on 2004. He received the government scholarship in his every stages of educational life. Just after his graduation, on 1st December, 2004; he joined as a lecturer of Biotechnology (at present Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh and started his career. On October 2010, he went to Tokyo University of Science to attend PhD program under the Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT) and on 19th March, 2014, he awarded Doctor of Engineering (Super Grade) degree from the Department of Biological Science and Technology under the faculty of Industrial Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science, Japan. By this time, he visited many countries like Japan, USA, Brazil, India, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Panama City. At present, he is serving as a professor in the department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh.

Engg.) finished on 19th March, 2014; Super Grade; from the Department of Biological Science and Technology under the faculty of Industrial Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science, JAPAN. Field of Specialization: PCR amplification, cloning, expression and purification of proteins. Protein-protein interaction, characterization and X-ray crystallography of protein.

Research Interests

Enzyme and protein technology- cloning, expression, and purification of protein, biochemical characterization (enzymatic assay, protein-protein interaction, protein-ligand/substrate interaction etc) of protein, protein crystallization, subunit assembly of protein. Biomedicine and medicinal plants- anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, cytotoxic activity of plant extracts; in vivo and in vitro characterization of plant-extracts.
