Biography

Dr. Hossain Al Mamun (ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3964-1900) is a Professor and Head of the Department of English of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet 3114, Bangladesh. His teaching and research interests include Shakespeare, 20th Century Fiction, Research Methodology, Postcolonial Studies, Ecocriticism, South Asian Literature, Partition Literature, Trauma Studies, and Human Rights in Literature. Besides scholarly criticism, he also writes and translates Poems and Short Stories in English and Bangla. His poems have been anthologized in a number of books. He is supervising four PhD and one MPhil fellow. Recently he has conducted two research projects (funded by SUST Research Centre) titled: (i) Students’ Use of Off-Class Hours in Campus and its Effectiveness: A Case Study on the Department of English Students at SUST; (ii) Use of Literature in Learning English and its Effectiveness: A Case Study on the Department of English Students at SUST, respectively a two-year and one-year projects. His last published book is Sixes: six-word stories (2019, Foreword: Professor Dr. Fakrul Alam). He is the author and co-author of other seven books. He has presented more than twenty papers at International Conferences at home and abroad. His scholarly articles have been published in reputed Journals at home and abroad. He was an elected member of the Academic Council of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology from 2012-2017. He is a member of the Bangla Academy, the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh and other renowned Institutions. He received the University Grants Commission PhD Fellowship, Research Grants from the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) and Biswa Sahitta Kendra Award. His current book projects are on Kazi Nazrul Islam, Syed Waliullah, Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, Chinua Achebe, Tea and Trauma in Literature.
